Job Title: Senior Technical/Technical Officer
Department: Bioinspired Systems Laboratory, HKUST(GZ)

The candidate must be able to quickly become familiar with all aspectsof the operation of a large low-speed wind tunnel and Water Tunnelcomplex and perform all duties. This facility assesses conventionalperformance for low-speed tests of powered and unpowered models ofvarious bioinspired micro air vehicles (MAV) and underwater vehicles(UWV), unmanned surface vehicles and bio-inspired soft-roboticautonomous underwater vehicles in flight/swimming conditions. Inaddition to testing operations, one must become familiar with the tunnelplant systems which include compressors, pumps, and drive motors, inaddition to smaller support equipment/instrument.

Duties
Low-speed wind-tunnel/water-tunnel operations responsibilities include,but are not limited to:
1. Providing technical support to related faculty members and research staff/students;
2. Monitoring the laboratorial safety in compliance with theUniversity’s safety regulation;
3. Maintaining configuration control of all facility systems;
4. Assisting the Lab Director to approve training records and thefacility resume;
5. Maintaining the facility laser certifications.

The test facility often requires the use of specific systems, media, andtest techniques to produce one-off approaches to solve complex problemsassociated with model integration, measurement application, andoperational configurations. Safety must be integrated into alloperations, which may utilize high energy laser-based measurement systems.

Qualification Requirements
1. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or arelevant higher diploma/higher certificate with at least 3 years ofpost-qualification working experience in mechanical design, computerinterface and instrumentation system development. Experience in therelated research field and computer/IT skills are strongly preferred;
2. Strong background in facility system safety and in mechanical andelectrical system analysis required;
3. Familiarity with aeronautics, MAVs, wind tunnel operations, personneltraining, and configuration management desired.
